The idea of provoking social awkwardness through design was the basis around the overall concept for this stool.
Through exploring sexual identity, nudity and body language the stool itself intends to challenge perception and explore the way in which we interact with a product. The design aims to exploit the user in an attempt to adapt body language and control our emotions. The stool should challenge us to explore our own sense of vulnerability. The piece was originally designed as part of a bespoke collection of furniture, which through implication enhances sexual attraction rather than aiding sexual intercourse itself. The target audience can range in relation to the product’s context and placement. When used in an intimate environment the concept of the stool is intended for intimate use – in comparison to if used in exhibition, as this would provoke a more intimidating objectification of the stool itself. |
